Microsoft’s AI Data Center Boom: Silicon Valley Right in Our Backyard

From the team at Speedtech International, proudly manufacturing hook and loop cable management solutions for data centers.

As you already know, the data center landscape is changing fast. But for Speedtech, we not only feel it but we see it.

In January 2026, the Mount Pleasant village board unanimously approved plans for 15 additional Microsoft data centers across two new campuses, totaling 9 million square feet of new development. This is part of a rapid expansion of Microsoft’s AI and cloud infrastructure right here in Wisconsin—on land once designated for Foxconn—and it’s projected to represent more than $13 billion in taxable value.

For those of us at Speedtech International, this news hits close to home—literally. We’re a Wisconsin-based manufacturer of fasteners and cable management solutions for data communications, just a few miles away from Mount Pleasant, and we see firsthand what it takes to build, maintain, and scale the physical backbone of the digital world.

A Global AI Infrastructure Hub in Wisconsin

This isn’t just another data center project. These new facilities are designed for high-density AI computing, built to support the kinds of workloads that power today’s generative AI models—meaning they’ll house hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs, supported by massive fiber networks and extensive internal cable infrastructure.

The first phase began in 2023–2024, with the first major campus opening in early 2026. And now, with 15 more data centers approved, it’s clear: Microsoft is putting down long-term roots in Mount Pleasant as a major hub for Microsoft Azure.

What Data Centers Need More Than Anything: Cable Control

When people imagine data centers, they picture servers. But behind every rack and under every floor is a reality most people never see:

Server racks filled with multiple rows of network equipment and cables are shown in a data center, illuminated by blue and orange lighting.

AI data centers multiply this complexity. They require higher density, greater connectivity, greater redundancy, and higher uptime than traditional enterprise facilities.

And with that comes a huge challenge: How do you manage and secure miles of cable—without slowing down the work?

That’s where cable management becomes mission-critical. Because in environments like these, cable organization isn’t about looking neat. It’s about:

A single snagged fiber line can cost real money. A poorly secured bundle can interfere with cooling. A messy pathway can delay a service tech for hours.

But luckily, we have the cable management solutions. For example:

Blue network cables bundled neatly with blue hook-and-loop ties inside a server rack. Text over the image reads: SPEEDWRAP® Brand FIBERtie™.

This is where Speedtech shines. Products like our SPEEDWRAP® Brand FIBERtie™ line include rolls of cut-to-length industrial grade hook & loop tapes, pre-cut fabric cable ties, special mounting hardware, and more. Awarded with a Platinum Level Converter designation by VELCRO® Companies, Speedtrech is uniquely positioned to provide data centers with both custom and off-the-shelf VELCRO® Brand ONE-WRAP® fasteners.

And for printing on VELCRO® Brand material, no one does more of that than Speedtech.
