What Is Berry Compliant?

The Berry Amendment (USC, Title 10, Section 2533a), requires the Department of Defense (DOD) to give preference in procurement to domestically produced, manufactured, or home-grown products, most notably food, clothing, fabrics, and specialty metals. Congress originally passed domestic source restrictions as part of the 1941 Fifth Supplemental DOD Appropriations Act in order to protect the domestic industrial base in the time of war.^[1]

What is a Berry Compliant Fastener?

The Berry Amendment deals with giving preference in procurement to domestically produced food, clothing, fabrics, and specialty metals.

Because many fasteners are made using metal and because Hook & Loop Fasteners are made with textiles, Manufacturers and Distributors using or supplying these type of fasteners in support of the Department of Defense require Berry Compliant Fasteners.

Are most Hook & Loop Fasteners Compliant?

No, most hook and loop fasteners are not compliant!  Because many of our competitors use non-domestic sourced raw materials, most of their Hook & Loop is not compliant.
